The owners had remodelled their small cottage and their new kitchen now completely opened out into the garden with sliding folding doors.

To maximise their living/entertaining space, a deck area was built at the same level as the kitchen to allow the dining table and chairs to be simply moved across, thus providing the option of al fresco dining.

Additional storage was a major requirement and a large shed was essential to the new garden design. A decked walkway now leads from the house to a large shed, made more pleasing with a shaded veranda, and painted in a pale colour.

Beside the shed we created an area enclosed in a small pergola for catching the afternoon sun.

A plum tree is planted in front of the neighbouring wall to provide spring blossom and fresh fruit picked straight from the tree. The unattractive brick wall is clothed with evergreen scented climbers and a blue and white flowered colour scheme.

Swaying grasses provide texture and movment

and a river of lavender takes colour across the garden.

The right hand border is filled with scented shrubs with seasonal interest

and large white flowered hydrangeas.
