The owner could not cope with her garden, to the extent that she wouldn’t venture into it. The brief was for a garden that would be low maintenance, but as she was an artist, but would also be beautiful and inspiring.

The garden was cleared, the grass removed and the conifer cut down in the middle of the garden. This immediately opened up the space. A terrace was built outside the French doors to the garden to provide an area to sit and entertain.

Railway sleeper stairs took the owner into the heart of the garden. Here the new gravelled area was surrounded by raised beds for easy maintenance, and planted with lavender, alliums and blue grasses.

The shady side of the garden was planted with flowering shrubs for year round interest.

An area at the back of the garden behind the newly painted shed was designed to be used by the owner for painting.
